Many victims have been able to break their Silence because of Lorraine Mulvey’s Courage

                 Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop, Chief Executive of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said: “Lorraine Mulvey waived her right to anonymity yesterday after her father was sentenced by Justice Paul Carney to a custodial sentence for raping and sexually abusing her as a child. Lorraine demonstrated huge courage and generosity of spirit in speaking out and as she said in the hope that it will give others the courage to speak out and seek help if they are in a similar situation.

On behalf of the many first time callers who, on the foot of Lorraine’s courage, phoned the National 24 Hour Helpline 1 800 77 8888 today to avail of the support, advice and help that is there for victims of rape, sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse, we thank her. They have taken the first step in their recovery because of Lorraine Mulvey’s  bravery in showing us how she has been helped, healed and now has closure, on what was a life of having to mask her true self.  What we have seen on the steps of the Central Criminal Court is indeed a courageous and generous woman. “
