DRCC Move & Groove Challenge

Dublin Rape Crisis Centre relies heavily on the generosity of people around Ireland to help fund its vital services supporting survivors of sexual violence. In fact, we need to raise €8,000 every week to ensure our services and other work remain at current levels.

We run many events during the year that generate much-needed income, and are lucky to have brilliant supporters who organise their own events that benefit us. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 Crisis has badly affected our ability to raise funds through such events.

But the present crisis is sparking lots of creative thinking about how we can do things differently. A lot of us are at home, with all kinds of family and work responsibilities, and would welcome the chance to do something a bit different.

The challenge

We are asking you to do something different that really makes a difference: Take up our 19 day DRCC Move & Groove Challenge! Join us and put aside 19 minutes to move and groove however you want – Dance, hop, jog on the spot, do some yoga, take the dog for a walk, go for a run or cycle, or however you like to move that makes you feel the better for it!

Keep up the 19 minutes of moving and grooving for 19 days and you’ll complete the challenge. Get your family (aka your home-office colleagues) to join in too – more craic for everyone. You can also challenge your friends to join in! #DRCCmove19

How it works

The good folks at iDonate are making the whole fundraising process really easy. You set up a fundraising profile on their website and off you go – it’s that simple. Take a look at a short video by our Ceo Noeline Blackwell as she explains how easy it is for you to get involved – Challenge Video

  • You can start up your page by going to our iDonate page – Click Here
  • We have also put together a guide which might be useful – Download Here
  • Don’t forget to drop us a line at fundraising@rcc.ie to let us know you are taking part!

We will be posting updates and messages on our social channels so you can send us your photos and shout-outs too.

iDonate are also offering another home fundraiser where they post a different challenge every day – you can also donate to DRCC in that way. Read more about iDonate’s Let’s Beat Covid19-Day Home Challenge at the following link:  iDonate Events

Why support us?

Sexual violence is unfortunately a serious public health and public justice problem in Ireland, with more people reporting rapes and sexual assaults, and even larger numbers seeking specialised support from crisis services. We know that many people have experienced sexual violence at some stage in their lives and we in Dublin Rape Crisis Centre are there for any person who needs support in the aftermath.

How we work

  • We run the National 24-hour Rape Crisis Helpline at 1800 77 8888 – people who need support can call anytime, day or night, to get information and support or even just to have someone listen.
  • We provide one-on-one counselling and therapy in our main office in Dublin City Centre and in outreach centres in the greater Dublin area.
  • Our trained volunteers accompany survivors to court and to Garda stations and are present for victims of rape and sexual assault attending the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit of the Rotunda Hospital.
  • We offer training to frontline staff and professionals designed to equip them to better understand and provide appropriate support and services to people traumatised by sexual violence.
  • We advocate and campaign on behalf of victims/survivors to raise awareness of how sexual violence harms society so we can make our public systems meet the needs of survivors and prevent sexual violence from happening in the first place.
  • We offer our expertise, research and knowledge to contribute to more effective public policy and law, particularly in the justice system, in public health and in education.

Help us to maintain our Frontline Services

In 2018, we had almost 14,000 contacts to DRCC from people seeking support in the short or long-term aftermath of sexual violence, and delivered counselling and therapy to 582 clients. And those figures are growing each year – we saw a 65% increase in demand for crisis services between 2016 and 2018.  We are also developing new online ways to assist even more people.

Just to maintain our services at their present level, we need to raise €8000 every single week.  We deeply appreciate your help to support these vital services.

Join us and make a real and positive difference in the lives of survivors!
