Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop, Chief Executive DRCC said: “The campaign entitled “Don’t be that Guy” was initiated in Canada and takes the blame away from the victims of sexual crimes and puts the responsibility appropriately where it belongs, with potential perpetrators.

Over the past week the old myths about how women are dressed or whether they are inebriated, have resurfaced as reasons why mainly women are vulnerable to rape and sexual assault. No matter what the circumstances are, no matter how a person is dressed or whether they are inebriated or not, no one has the right to take advantage of another person at any time.

This campaign which is aimed at young people encourages them to be more aware and more discerning when it comes to the possibility of the exploitation of women. Don’t be that guy. Don’t be that guy who doesn’t take responsibility. Don’t be that guy who doesn’t make sure his partner is consenting. Don’t be that guy who sexually assaults a young woman too drunk to consent to sex. Don’t be that guy who uses alcohol as a tool to sexually assault. Don’t be that guy who believes it is not rape.”
