Is holding a one day seminar for Primary School teachers

The Drumcondra Education Centre In collaboration with Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is holding a Seminar for
primary school teachers entitled: Trauma and the Child: Supporting the Children of Refugees and Asylum Seekers,
whose parents have experienced Sexual Violence and other Trauma.
Aims: The seminar aims to equip teachers with the awareness and skills necessary to support the children of Refugees
and Asylum Seekers, whose parents have experienced Sexual Violence and other Trauma
Content of the course:
- Issues facing Refugees and Asylum Seekers coming to Ireland, including Displacement and Loss, Previous
experiences of Sexual Violence and other Trauma, and living in Direct Provision
- The impact of Cultural Beliefs on the individual’s experience of Sexual Trauma
- The impact of Trauma on both the parent and the family
- How Attachment and Attunement and developmental tasks are affected by trauma
- The main features of Transgenerational Trauma
- Protective strategies adopted by the child in response to trauma and how these may manifest in the classroom
- The main features of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the child and how to respond to symptoms
- Strategies for supporting the child impacted by Trauma within the school setting
- Strategies for self-care when working with Trauma
