Trauma and the Child: 3 day training programme – February 2012
A 3 day training programme for Primary School Staff and Staff of other organisations working with young children

9.30am to 4.00 pm
With the support of funding from the European Refugee Fund, Dublin Rape Crisis Centre offers a 3 day training programme for Primary School staff and staff working in other organisations with young children of asylum seekers and refugees who have experienced sexual violence and other trauma.
This training is intended to enhance the capacity of participants to support children whose parents have experienced sexual violence and other trauma.
Please note that this training which is co-financed by the European Refugee Fund is offered to those working with young children. DRCC offers training under this project for staff working in other contexts also, please contact us for further information.
The course programme:
• Sexual violence as a global issue
• Issues facing Refugees and Asylum Seekers coming to Ireland, including Displacement and Loss, Previous experiences of Sexual Violence and other Trauma and living in Direct Provision
• Impact of Cultural Beliefs on the impact of the individual’s experience of Sexual Trauma
• The impact of Trauma on both the parent and the family
• The impact of Sexual Violence
• Attachment and Attunement in the parent- child relationship: The Impact of Trauma
• The impact of trauma on the major developmental tasks for the child
• Inter-generational Trauma
• Child Protection Issues including Female Genital Mutilation
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the child and how to respond to symptoms
• Supporting the child impacted by Trauma within the school or other setting
• Vicarious traumatisation and the impact of working with those who have experienced sexual violence and other trauma
• Strategies for self-care when working with Trauma
The training approach is participative and experiential and will include lecture, group discussion, video footage, role play and case study. Emphasis is placed on the enhancement of existing skills, as well as developing new areas of competence.
The maximum number of participants is 16, to facilitate group participation, so early booking is advised.
There is a €60 fee for attendance at this three day training course, which is a subsidised rate. If you wish to attend, please complete and return the application form.

Corporate Quiz Challenge hosted by Pat Kenny – 1st March
The annual Corporate Quiz Challenge will take place at the Four Seasons. This event is greatly supported by up to 50 teams from the corporate sector and is hosted by broadcaster Pat Kenny. The evening starts with a drinks reception and some companies use this event for corporate entertainment.
Women’s Mini Marathon – 4th June
The 10K women’s marathon takes place in Dublin city centre in June and is supported by women from all over the country. It is a great day out with a fantastic atmosphere and most people participate on behalf of a charity of their choice.

Golf Classic at Powerscourt – 8th June
Powerscourt Golf Club is the home of our annual golf classic which takes place in June and this event is widely used for corporate entertainment. The event is very popular with excellent prizes, dinner and entertainment.
