Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop, Chief Executive of DRCC said: Christine Buckley will be a great loss to her family and she will be a great loss to all the survivors of institutional abuse whom she has supported, represented and helped over the years. Christine was a pioneer and a very courageous woman. She spoke out about the abuse she experienced and witnessed as a child in institutional care in Ireland, at a time when the silence of child emotional, physical and sexual abuse was palpable in Irish society. Her contribution to breaking that silence is immeasurable. Through her participation in the unforgettable documentary Dear Daughter she enabled so many others to speak out.

She campaigned tirelessly and was instrumental in persuading and influencing the Government to deliver the Ryan Report which confirmed all the anecdotal stories that were told in Rape Crisis Centres and therapy rooms around the country, of the atrocities that had happened to children in state institutions. She was passionate about enshrining the rights of the child in our constitution.

Our deepest sympathies go to her family and to her friends on their great loss. Ar dheis De go bhfuil a anam.
