Child Pornography Means Depictions of Children being Abused

Friday, February 9th, 2007

The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC) was shocked to hear that the Gardai did not act on information they had received last August from Austrian authorities about two computer owners in Ireland who were linked to a ‘child-porn ring’.

Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop, CEO, DRCC said “Images of children being abused is the core of child pornography. The most innocent in our society need to be protected. We are very uneasy about this non-action by the Gardai. We need to demand that this will not happen again. We need to know that systems are put in place so that every piece of information that is received is dealt with by a specialist team within the Gardai who will act immediately.

Our children deserve the most stringent protection. The people who are involved in this industry need to know that the Gardai are fully resourced and will be able to catch the instigators of the crimes that follow as a result of child pornography.”
